TYPES OF BOUNDARIES
About 2/3 of Norway's land area is comprised of mountains (physical).
Norway also includes roughly 50,000 islands off the coast; they are separated by water (physical). Norway borders three countries: Sweden, Finland, and Russia. The Scandinavian Mountains act as a physical boundary between most of Norway and Sweden. Norway, Sweden, and Finland meet with a stone monument (a demarcation) marking the tripoint agreed upon by the governments of all three countries. There is a subsequent (cultural) boundary separating Norwegian, Swedish, and Finnish ethnicities. The boundary between Norway and Russia is demarcated with a border station called the "Storskog." Russia and Norway agreed on this subsequent (cultural) boundary by separating Russian and Norwegian ethnicities. |
